Family Sketch

We remember a certain spark from the very first time we met. We were first made aware of each other through mutual friends, and eventually ended up as housemates, sharing a home with a few other friends. This gave us a wonderful opportunity to get to know each other as we truly are in our day-to-day lives, before we began a romantic relationship. It enabled us to become very good friends before we became partners, which has been such an asset to our relationship. We have been best friends ever since.

We share our home with two cats, Ninah, and Mouse, whom we love very much. They are wonderful friends and love to frolic around the house together. They are great around other people and especially children. We have a number of young people who visit our home, and the cats love to play and hang out with them. We also have chickens in our backyard, which provide us and our friends with all the fresh, healthy eggs we could ever need.

Our interests in life have been similar from the very beginning. We are perfectly aligned spiritually, politically, and in our views of the world. We feel that the most important things in life are to be good people, treat others well, respect the earth, and to do what we can to leave the world better than we found it. We have a deep respect for the natural world in which we live, and nothing brings us more pleasure than to be outdoors appreciating the world around us. This can take many forms including biking, hiking, skiing, walking, running, or simply sitting down and enjoying the view. We also love to travel and have visited places ranging from various U.S. National Parks to Costa Rica and Hawaii.

Another passion we both share is dancing. We are both involved in FolkMADS (New Mexico Folk Music and Dance Society,) with Deb being on the Board of Directors, while Rob runs the sound system for the dances. We go dancing every week and have so much fun listening to the music and dancing that we can’t stop smiling all night. There is nothing else we do that makes us happier than dancing together.

We are also very interested in living as healthy a lifestyle as we can. We try to eat the healthiest food we can afford and try to get plenty of exercise. We both think it is important to live life simply and as in harmony with the earth as possible. Environmental awareness and responsibility is of the utmost importance to both of us, and we live our lives accordingly.

In our careers, we have both chosen paths that have led us to work with children. Rob is a Montessori teacher certified in grades one through six, and is currently teaching fourth and fifth grade. Deb is doing private childcare for three beautiful children, and she is doing some home schooling with the youngest who is five. Deb has also worked in Montessori schools, working with children from 3 to 12 years old. We both love our work and feel that we gain so much from working with children. They help keep us young, they remind us of what is really important in life, and they bring us so much joy. In return, we get to help these children become the best people they can be. Passing on our knowledge to the next generation so they can live good lives is one of our goals in life that we hold very dear. Deb has an amazing reputation among local families as one of the best childcare providers around, and families cannot wait to have their children in Rob's class at school. It makes us proud to be providing such an important service to the young people in our care. Deb plans on being a stay-at-home mom when we have children, while Rob's schedule makes it so that he will be off of work whenever the children are out of school.

We both have parents who are very supportive of us adopting, and our friends have provided invaluable support along the way and will continue to do so after we adopt. We feel so lucky to be in such a supportive and loving community, and we cannot wait to share it with our child. We both feel that there is no greater responsibility in life than raising a child, and we are very excited to embark on this wonderful journey.

Birthmother/Birthfather Letter:

Dear Birthparents,

We want to start by saying how much we respect and appreciate the difficult time you are going through, and the difficult decisions you are trying to make. We also want to thank you for considering us as adoptive parents for your child. It has been our dream to become parents for over a decade now, and your enormous strength, courage, and selflessness may bring us to the realization of that dream.

We love being around children whether it is at work, with our nieces and nephews, or with friend’s children. They bring such joy to our lives and we are so very excited to raise a child of our own. We feel that there is no greater responsibility in life than raising a child, and we are both overjoyed that you are considering us for this task. We look forward to providing a child with a wonderful home, a great education, and a life full of joy, love, and wonder. Our thoughts are with you as you make these difficult decisions, and we hope that you and your child find the family that is the perfect match. Thank you so much for considering us as that family.
