Family Sketch

Hi, we are Stan and Susan, and we’ve been married for 20 years. We met in college during auditions for a band – guess you could say it was “love at first listen”! Even while we were dating, we talked about adopting children one day. When we realized we would be unable to start our own family by traditional means, it became clear why God had put that desire in our hearts. Now, the blessing of adoption has given us two beautiful boys, but we don’t yet feel that our family is complete and would like to adopt again.

Stan is a “computer geek” and a bit of an introvert. His job with the Federal Government allows him to work from home, which enables him to spend a lot of time with Susan and the boys. He’s an entrepreneur at heart, and his real passion in business is internet marketing. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, riding his motorcycle, and hunting. Stan comes from a blended family and was adopted himself.

In her “former life,” Susan worked as a paralegal, but now she is blessed to be a full-time stay-at-home Mom. She is also a part-time homeschooler and very involved at Jonathan’s school. She likes to cook and bake using whole foods and organic ingredients and even grinds her own flour. In her free time, she loves to sing, read, shop, decorate the house, and spend time with friends and family. Susan also comes from a blended family and is one of 10 children.

Jonathan is 10 years old and in 4th grade. He is an “outside the box” kind of kid who has imagination and creativity oozing from every pore. He has many interests which, because of his personality, vary from week to week. His favorite subject in school (besides lunch and recess, of course) is science. He waited a long time to be a big brother, and not only does he enjoy it (at least most of the time), but he’s good at it, too.

Our 3-year-old son, Christopher, keeps us on our toes and keeps us laughing. He has very strong opinions for someone of his age, and he’s not afraid to share them. He loves to help out around the house and even has his own vacuum cleaner. On our homeschool days, he likes to do “schoolwork” too, and is already quite proficient on the computer. He adores his big brother and is very attached to his “blankey.”

We have a very large extended family, some of whom live here in Albuquerque and all of whom have lovingly embraced our boys and will equally embrace a new addition to our family. We’re also blessed to have a special group of friends who are fellow adoptive families. We are thrilled that our children will be able to grow up knowing other adopted children and understanding that adoption is just another way to form a family.

Birthmother/Birthfather Letter

Dear Friend(s),

We cannot begin to imagine the enormous decisions you face concerning your future and the future of your child. Although we have not met you, we greatly admire the love you show for your child in considering the possibility of adoption. We pray that God will give you a sense of clarity and peace as you contemplate traveling down this path.

Thank you for taking time to learn about our family. We’d like to begin by telling you a bit about us as a couple. We are your typical college sweethearts in that we met in college, became best friends, fell in love, and got married. We have been happily married now for 20 years and have a secure, loving relationship. Although we have had our share of struggles, including infertility, they have only served to make our love for and commitment to each other that much stronger. We share a love for music, movies, and travel. Most of all, we just love spending time together.

Ten years ago, we were blessed with the adoption of our son, Jonathan. Watching him grow and change daily has been one of our greatest joys. We met Jonathan’s birthmother just 2 weeks before he was born. We often joke that we waited 6 long years for a baby, and God gave us only 2 weeks’ notice! Jonathan is a happy, adventurous, imaginative 10-year-old. He loves science, skateboarding, Legos, and playing (especially pretend play) with his friends, cousins, and little brother. He would tell you his best friend is his guinea pig, Peanut. He is a very loving, patient, and protective big brother, and he dreams of being an inventor one day.

Our “Christmas surprise,” Christopher, was born just 2 days before Christmas. We thought we had little notice in Jonathan’s adoption, but Christopher had already been born when we received the exciting phone call to come to the hospital to meet our new son! Christopher is a loving, happy, energetic, 3-year-old, who pretty much wants to do and/or play with whatever his big brother is doing and/or playing with. He loves doing puzzles, playing on the computer, reading books, and building things with blocks (make that knocking down whatever someone else has built with blocks!). He will make a wonderful big brother, and is especially excited about sharing a room with Jonathan when his new brother or sister arrives.

We are an active, fun-loving family with lots of love to share. We love being a family and are so excited about bringing another child into our lives. Please know that we are not perfect people; however, we feel we have much to offer your child: a warm, nurturing, God-centered environment in which to develop and grow; a wonderful home in a family-friendly neighborhood; a stay-at-home Mom and work-from home Dad who love being parents and who love each other and make their marriage a priority; two amazing brothers who will absolutely love having a sibling; and a large circle of family and friends all waiting to embrace a new addition to our family.

We invite you to see if we are the family you are searching for.

In God’s Love,

Stan, Susan, Jonathan, & Christopher

We love being a family and are so excited about bringing another child into our lives.
